A picture of innocence . . . this is the first photo I took of her when she was a kitten. Unfortunately she now knows that the big thing in my hand goes CLACK, doesn't like it and runs away.
She came to live with us eight years ago after being found abandoned on the side of a road and brought to a local vet just at the time we were looking for a new pet.
At first Maggie was very frightened in her new home and we made a big mistake and put her in the kitchen. She was tiny, aged about six weeks, and dashed under the dishwasher. And we couldn't get her out. Eventually we got help from the DSPCA. After that we put her in a spare bedroom which had lots of nice dark safe hiding places. Every day my wife sat with her, talking gently and gradually she was introduced to me. And then to the neighbourhood children.
