For Mixology Monday XXXIX the theme is amaro -- bitter liqueurs, known as "amaro" in Italy but by many other names in other countries. These are the ones you drink after dinner, not aromatic bitters that you add to cocktails by the dash.
This is my entry, which will be posted and described at greater length on Monday:
2 ounces Rittenhouse 100 proof bonded rye whiskey
1/2 ounce Punt E Mes
1/2 ounce Amaro Borsci San Marzano
1 scant barspoon Luxardo Morlacco cherry liqueur (substitute Cherry Heering)
2-3 goodly dashes Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters
Combine with ice in a mixing glass and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry.
I decided to name this one after my neighborhood.
