Day 21: You Cut Me to the Core.
Still playing catchup after a weekend away, uploading several photos a day. Be sure to check backward to see what has been hiding in the depths of my hard drive this weekend!!
Given my proclivity for very odd love stories and my macabre, childish inclinations, it's probably predictable that I would love a fucked up fairy tale like Edward Scissorhands.
It's such an odd and inventive story that tangles the darkness in friendly society through the lightness of independence as an outcast. It's macabre on the surface, whimsical just beneath. The story is dark and sexual, and yet childish and honest and surreal. It's a very finely crafted film, from the visual style to the presence of music.
I have to say I often like Tim Burton more in theory than in actuality. Many of his films are close to amazing but do not reach full potential in my eyes.....I really do believe in Burton as a director. His style is dark and rich and Pretty / Ugly (tm). But I find many of his films to be watered down versions of what they could be. LIke he stands one step short of greatness.
Scissorhands, though, is truly everything it should be.
PS, one of my best friends is starting his own 365. Check it out!
