Wrapped Up in Books
Our aspirations are wrapped up in books.
Our inclinations are hidden in looks.
I’ve been wanting to do a year project for some time now.
After not the best weekend last weekend, I couldn’t concentrate on anything. However, I’d find myself on Flickr with endless tabs open with photography – photographers like Karrah, Alex, Brian, Kiara, David and Jared among others.
Being inspired is my happy place, and photography inspires me. It’s where my mind wanders in between everything else.
I have a particular interest in conceptual photography, and that’s what I especially want to improve on in the next year. I look at photographers like the abovementioned and their projects, amazed at their improvement over their time doing a project. I want to try new techniques on camera and in postproduction. I’d love to do a 365 but my schedule honestly wouldn’t allow it. I want to have time to put effort into my photos. I want to feel excited by this project, not restricted. I want to say something with my photography, something that matters.
This piece was inspired by this song by Belle & Sebastian. I originally had myself wrapped in pages with a headband too before realizing how much I dislike modeling. I’ve been getting back into reading again lately, and find myself so absorbed in the words on the page. I smile without realizing at the beautifully poetic expressions written, and dream of times so simple. I’m currently reading ‘Love in the time of Cholera’ and am reading Steve Job’s biography and ‘The Picture of Dorian Grey’ when I’ve finished. The picture didn’t work out how I’d imagined, but I like it’s simplicity and the capturing of natural light anyway.
