Surreal Towers

Mono Lake is a different environment.

Nay

A different planet.

That was my first impression upon seeing the tall rugged tufa spires rising out of the churning waters of Mono Lake

The impressive structures combined with the snow capped Sierras in the background etched a powerful image in my mind. So alien, so different and so contrasting from the scenes of Bay Area.

Was it worth the 6 hour drive to get there?

Was it worth speeding along US 395 to capture the last of the sunlight?

Was it worth waking up at 4:30am on a freezing morning to capture the stillness of scene?

Yes, Yes and YES

I need to pay a visit in the winter.

The above shot was taken a few minutes after sunrise at the South Tufa

Sheer Bliss
