sweet and salty cake

    Newer Older

to my great chagrin and much hair pulling this morning, these are the ONLY pictures that wound up on my card, somehow. i have no idea where the other in-progress pictures went - and they were SO interesting. This is a tricky cake and I learned a lot from making it.

Ooh. I made this last November but never got to blogging it... I found it a wee over-the-top, and a bit too much work. So not like me!

Yeah, I agree... I do like the idea of salted caramel, so am thinking of tweaking proportions a bit... Also, stupid caramel NEVER got soaked into the cake, one cake fell, others were fine... my oven is lopsided so things are slightly ever so leaning tower of Pisa... Yeah, i concur, in short :)

It is definitely a tough one - not for beginners, I'd say. I've not made it, but I've eaten it and Oh My Goodness Me.

Luisa, it was SO tricky! Ha, I wish I had known... still, it was so tasty, totally worth it and I learned a lot... I need to work on my cake not sinking a bit...

My friend who used to work there told me the real cake is amazing, which is what talked me into going for it. I just felt in the end that the work didn't justify the end product. Listen to me -- such a complainer! I can assure you that none of it went to waste at the party.

Hee, no I'm glad I'm not the only one who was frustrated by this. I think the cake was so amazing I might trouble myself again to deal with it -- I learned a few tricks while putting it together, so am hoping the next time (far, far away from today) will not be as traumatic. I can assure you it was a good thing no kids were within an earshot of me - my language was NOT pretty and I was cooking by myself.
