No lions or Elephants

Cullaloe Wildlife Reserve.

A flickr friend had been posting some wonderful wildlife photographs from a place close to where I live, shamefully I was totally in the dark about the reserve, I promised to visit when I could and I must admit to my surprise, what a wonderful idillic setting. Peaceful and totally natural, I wandered through fields of wild flowers and grasses, watched Coots and Swans on the water and listened to grasshoppers and hover-fly a total contrast to Kenya but for more than a moment I was pleased to be back home in my wonderful Fife.

Tomorrow I will be back in Africa but for today I just wanted to be home.

My Contact and now friend Alison.

The Cullaloe reserve comprises several distinct and diverse environments, each supporting its own wildlife and plant communities. These are the old loch (rich in wildfowl and rare plant life), the wooded areas of mature woodland trees to the south and north of the loch (woodland birds and wildlife), the floor and banks of the drained reservoir (willow carr), the lower pools (aquatic insects and plants), several wild rough grassed areas (wild flowers, butterflies and insects), and the steep slopes along the boundary to the east of the reserve.
