Low-flying Brown Pelican off La Jolla Cove
They seemed to come from out of nowhere, so most of the inflight shots that I took were at their backs and even more were out of focus. I did get lucky on a couple of them, though, and was able to crop them very tightly, like this one. Almost all of the Brown Pelicans and many of the Cormorants were in breeding colors, which makes them much more attractive, but the Pelicans are still funny-looking and entertaining to watch. I never tire of watching them glide along the tops of the cliffs or barely above the water or their antics on shore.
