Its seeds are used to treat abscesses and skin eruptions, deafness, headache, skin problems, bleeding, constipation, boils, piles, and to promote labour. The Arab version of the scripture makes ricinus communis the gourd of jonah. Its oil is burned in Sabbath lamps of the Jews. Pliny calls the plant kiki.
