The leaf poultice of the castor oil plant is applied to boils and sores in India, and used to treat headaches in Hawaii. Its seeds are used to treat abscesses and skin eruptions, deafness, headache, skin problems, bleeding, constipation, boils, piles, and to promote labour. The Arab version of the scripture makes ricinus communis the gourd of jonah. Its oil is burned in Sabbath lamps of the Jews. Pliny calls the plant kiki.
