An adult female of Varroa destructor, a mite parasiting the domestic bee (honeybee - Apis mellifera). Frontal view, on the head of a bee nymph.

With thanks to the people working at the "CARI" (bee research center) who provided the infested bees.

 

Scale : mite width ~ 2 mm

 

Technical settings :

- focus stack of 53 images

- microscope objective (Nikon achromatic 10x 160/0.25) on 30mm extension (just the adapter)
