Indian Pond Heron

This bird is in what I believe a transitional stage of plumage change leading to the breeding colours that appear prior to the monsoons. The change in plumage during the breeding season makes the bird look quite different. The colour of the beak has already changed with it becoming bluish at the base, yellowish at the centre and black at the tip. Also the head and neck is turning brown, chin and upper throat white and the back into a brownish-maroon. The crest is also growing as seen clearly in this photo. In fact the bird looked so dull that I felt like increasing the contrast.
