Sam Goes Bowling (Composite)
Haven't been shooting a lot lately so I had to do something to keep myself sharp. Took a strobist shot in my basement this morning of myself against a grey background (gyproc) using my SB600 in an apollo softbox (camera right) and my Yongnuo 560 into a shoot-thru umbrella behind me (camera left). Found a picture of the bowling alley online (couldn't find anything better) and tried to fit the overall lighting/exposure with it. I know I'm technically pointed the wrong way to be throwing the bowling ball, but you work with what you've got! Cut myself out of the basement shot using CS6 and then plopped it into the bowling alley shot. Inspired by Joel Grimes - www.flickr.com/photos/29210138@N04/
I did spend a good bit of my young life playing 5-pin bowling. 7 or 8 years i was in YBC (Youth Bowling Council) and I was pretty good. Went to a lot of provincial tournaments and even got second nationally on a team.
As for the rest of the technical details, I shot this with my D90 on a tripod with the remote to fire. Used my 50mm f/1.8D lens and the above mentioned speedlights.
Hope you like it. (And yes, I have my own bowling balls)
