Punakaiki and the Pancake Rocks, New Zealand South Island and One of Sam’s Exotic Travels
On our first day, we drove all the way to Punakaiki, part of the Paparoa National Park south of Buller and north of Greymouth. While Punakaiki is noted for its Pancake Rocks and blowholes, it has some great beaches and forest walks within the national park. We arrived late at night in pitch blackness, due to heavy rain – but I got it up in time to take a couple of pre-dawn shots (as we rented a room on the beach) – and as it was still raining it looked like that would be the best I would get – and then the sun came out to the west and the reflections over the beach were stunning – despite the continued light rain. My pictures include the beach, the famous blowholes and along Truman Track.
