DeKorte Park

Sandwiched between New York City and urban New Jersey, DeKorte Park in the Hackensack Meadowlands is a shining example of environmental restoration surrounded by a virtual industrial wasteland. Highways, train lines, high-tension wires and landfills border it on all sides, and the park itself once formed part of an enormous dump site. Over the past 20 years or so, the wetland ecosystem here has returned and wildlife, particularly birds cruising north and south on the Atlantic skyway, teems once again. It's definitely a place to see if you can find it.
