Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia was built on the principle that solitary confinement fosters penitence and encourages reformation (Pennsylvania System). It has a wagon wheel design and was closed down in 1971 due to high maintenance and riots. Now its a historic land mark and worth a visit when you are in Philly. Al Capone was held inside this jai.
