Hiking in Sunnmøre, Part 9: Råna
On top of the 1586m high mountain Råna in Sunnmørsalpane looking westward along its summit ridge towards the neighbouring peaks Hjelledalstindane. Råna offers great views of the surrounding alpine landscape. While the view southwards reaches as far as Jostedalsbreen (continental Europe's largest glacier), one can see the region's main city Ålesund to the North. To the East, at the mountain's foot lies the idyllic valley Regndal and above it Sunnmøre's largest glacier Regndalsbreen.
Råna can be reached from Urkedalen via Nordkopen within 4 to 5 hours of hiking. The route includes class 2+ (YDS) scrambling sections and large accumulations of avalanche snow might force you to leave the path and chose an alternative ascent route throughout the whole hiking season.
On a completely unrelated note I should start cleaning my lenses and filters before I go up a mountain...
Comments of all sorts are - as always - highly appreciated!
