Taxatron at TDWG

Taxatron is a kinetic sculpture that displays the number of new species for a given group of organisms, in this case Octopoda (the taxonomic order of octopuses) . In the early 1900s, there were two very important monographs about octopi, which you can see rendered on either side of the "d." Taxatron allows these historical connections to interlace with the data in new and interesting ways.

Taxatron is a kinetic sculpture that I made in 2010 for the Marine Biological Laboratory. To learn more about it, visit my website
