Abandoned Highway 61 in Centralia, Pa. The town of Centralia had a coal fire start beneath it in the 1960s. By the 1980s, the fire had spread halfway across the town and was taking homes out, as well as roads.
Money was allocated by the United States Govt. to move the people of Centralia. Many stayed, and up until 2011, 10 homes remained. Today there are about 6.
This is a picture of the abandoned highway that has now come to be known as "Graffiti Highway". Many spray paint words and pictures on the highway that has been shut down since the '80s.
The fire still rages under the town. It'll burn for another 200 years at least.
