A Preview of the 2011 Tribute in Light (9/11 Memorial)

    Newer Older

As they usually do, they were testing the lights in preparation for 9/11. In years past I understood why they had the tribute in lights at the parking garage but I don't fully understand why not at the memorial this year. I think it would be stunning to have the lights at the exact footprints of the old towers. It may be a safety/territory thing (PANY/NJ versus Municipal Arts Society of New York).

Of course, I am always looking out for great private rooftops or unique public locations and if anyone knows of any please contact me via flickrmail or rbudhuphotos [at] gmail.com.

gorgeous shot Ryan. i always hoped that this would be made part of the permanent memorial site - to me the lights are such a simple, powerful, and beautiful tribute. hopefully MAS gets funding to keep this going in future years.

Another beautiful shot! So well done. Same powerful lights, only using - what looks like - 16 here (2 beams on the corners of the 2 towers?) Saves power, funding for this great tribute..I say they should do this every night in Sept. though.

Back on 9/11/04 they were on a vacant lot - now the Goldman Sachs HQ, caddy corner what would be WTC1 - had many more lights - About 2 rows of 20 beams down for each side.

If I can get conformation that they may light them up tonight, I would love to drive up there.

WTC 1 is the bright, all white lit up tower - about top middle.(tallest one in the photo, also officially the tallest tower in Lower Manhattan 82 floors as of today! - Loving the progress)

I assume it's all white because they didn't turn on the red & blue lights on until the 9th or the 10th :)

Congralulations on Explore SEPTEMBER 6 2011!
      In numerology 911 MEMORIAL = 9+1+1+13+5+13+15+18+9+1+12 = 97
P is the 16th letter of the alphabet(pronounce like Pi)
How to explore the 6 decimal digits by using theese numbers?
I hope you will like this calculation!

I have been wondering that for YEARS!!! Why didn't they incorporate this memorial into the footprints???? I find it interesting that only the corners are lit here. I guess because they were testing it. Maybe sometimes they test different ways of doing that might be cheaper. I know it's pretty expensive to do this.
