Spatter Cones

Spatter Cones. These small, steep-sided cones form where molten lava is ejected only a short distance from a vent. Uusually, they form during the final stage of an eruption, after much of the pressure has been dissipated and the quantity of lava reduced. Craters of the Moon National Monument. Butte Co., Idaho.
