Vintage Gas Station, US 101 (Olympic Highway), Aberdeen, WA
This shot is from a road trip I took in July 2012 in the Pacific northwest. The late afternoon light and shadows on this vintage Shell gas station in Aberdeen, WA, reminded me so much of an Edward Hopper painting. I couldn't resist pulling over to take a closer look. No one was there, it's not a real station at all... all of the fixtures/pumps are life-size props. Many of the adjacent storefronts are empty, reinforcing the eerie loneliness that is dominant in Hopper's paintings.
