Pickering Professional Firefighters throw support behind The Shoulder Centre in annual Boot Drive
October 15/16, 2016 — If you were driving to shop anywhere around Pickering on the weekend, odds are good a firefighter was there to greet you and ask for your support of The Shoulder Centre at Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital, during the return of their annual Boot Drive.
This year’s event was expanded to two days, Saturday and Sunday, October 15/16. Members of the Pickering Professional Firefighters Association, along with firefighter students and RVHS Foundation volunteers were stationed at shopping plaza exits for most of the day, greeting motorists as they came and went, offering an opportunity for drivers to make a donation. Firefighters had some of their fire trucks on display, but were ready to jump when an emergency call came in, and they were needed.
This year's funds support The Shoulder Centre, a collaboration of five great shoulder surgeons who are building the capacity to assess and treat all shoulder problems accurately and with shortened wait times. A long-standing event for local firefighters, in recent years the Boot Drive has supported a baby Panda Warmer, mini C-arm X-Ray machine, GreenLight Laser and other important equipment at RVAP over the years.
