Dugong in sea grass meadow, Marsa Abu Dabbab

Photo taken by Mark Goodchild. Dugongs are sea cows - like manatees. They are very rare. There are only about 50 in the Red Sea and 600 in the world. The scars on its back are from boat propellors that it got too close to.

I didn't take the photo (I don't have an underwater camera) but did swim with it for half an hour, and Mark kindly let me use his photos in my Flickr stream.

This is currently the most interesting photo tagged with 'dugong'.
