Squirrel Point Lighthouse

The Kennebec River has been an important maritime thoroughfare since the 17th century. Arrows Island was one of the first areas settled, and ships moved goods up and down the river. The Squirrel Point Lighthouse was built in 1898 after the then Govenor of Maine, Samuel Shute, was aboard his frigate The Squirrel ran aground at this spot.
