1985 – Failed planned explosive demolition in Hackney - 1

This is my 500th upload, so thought something a little different would be in order.

The shot was taken in London, Eastway, E9.

Around 1985 some of the post war tower blocks were destined to be dismantled. Explosives were the choice of demolition. I have seen them come down and the idea is that they implode on themselves from strategically positioned explosives. They then just drop to the ground making a huge cloud of dust, and end as a great pile of rubble.

This particular one did not quite make it. It was one of the first to be demolished I believe. I am not sure how they did get it down in the end.
