Old Boonville, MO Wal-Mart

    Newer Older

The old Boonville, MO Wal-Mart sits empty. After 23 years of service, the doors are now locked and all that is left is memories.

Any chance this was an old Woolco store, before Wal-Mart occupied the space? It looks like the "non-original" Wal-Marts near me, which were converted Woolco stores.

Darrell L James, this is actually an original Wal-Mart building. Wal-Mart built these types of stores from the 60's until 1984. Back then they were called Wal-Mart Discount City stores.

Good to know. Knowing this, I will make a trip out to Belton MO, and capture their old Wal-Mart store, which looks just like this, except it never even got the blue paint upgrade, it's still brown.

And the 1960's - 1984 time frame sounds right too, as the store in Olathe KS opened in '84 or maybe very late '83, and it did not look like this--it was the next generation building type.

The FRONT of the Original Walk-Mart in Evanston , Wyoming That opened it's doors in July 1990 looked like the picture. That store closed in April 2002 when the Newer Wal-Mart Super center 1 1/2 blocks away opened. The older building was later remodeled & is leased to a general farm supply store chain.

A lot of these Wal Mart Realty Company actions depend on the structure of the agreement & permits Wal Mart can obtain dealing with local governmental bodies such as City Councils in some cases.
