I went there with some of my buddies on the day it opened and we spent all of our spare cash on seconds. I've been sold on the stuff ever since........hence, I'm not a small lad anymore :(
If I remember rightly a celebrity of some kind was there at the opening.

I think you'll find that the celebrity who launched the UKs first KFC was none other than Colonel Harland Sanders direct from Kentucky.

Thanks Bernie, I'm afraid that I couldn't remember who the celebrity was. The only thing on our minds at that time was the fried chicken, which was a completely new concept in food to us all.
There is an interesting history of KFC at this blog link: kentuckyfriedbloggin.blogspot.com/2009/02/ray-allen-saint...

      Great Blog.
      It raises an interesting question.
Did Colonel Sanders really attend the opening, or is it just a Preston urban myth? I seem to remember seeing a black and white picture of the occasion but I can’t remember where. Perhaps somebody out there can give us a definitive answer.

I think it probably was the Colonel as he used to stay in Lytham with my in-laws, the Allen family, when he visited, the head office for KFC UK Ltd being in Lytham Square. If anyone has any more photographs of the store on Fishergate I'd love to see them!

Thanks for that Kimberley, perhaps I didn’t imagine it after all : ))
