In a nearby taro patch the trainees get some practice at carabao plowing. A Sabah/Sarawak training group goes through the mill in Waipio valley, which is located 50 miles from Hilo. Efforts have been made to recreate a Southeast Asian village, which will expose the trainees to many of the hardships and deprivations they will encounter overseas. The training includes care, slaughtering, dressing and cooking poultry and livestock. Photographed by Conklin.
