Exploring Hackberry Canyon, 4 of 4
Sculpted sandstone, curving away in waves. Photos can not do a place like this justice.
June 17th: Totally overcast, the weather forecast said "mostly cloudy" but that seemed optimistic. The plan was to hike Willis Creek that day but with no sun, wading in a slot canyon sounded like a cold thing to do. So we took off down Cottonwood Canyon Road, hoping it wouldn't rain so we could get back. That road is built on clay and when it gets wet - well, you don't want to be there when it rains. It's one of those marked "Road may be impassable when wet" on the maps.
Partway along it was looking darker still so we decided to stay close and try hiking Upper Hackberry Canyon. Didn't know a thing about it except there was a trailhead marked on the map at the head of the canyon but we went for it anyway. Very unlike us to wing it, we've usually done our research.
