Destruction in Fake Hammock 20120808

Note how grasses have sprung up where formerly there was deep shade. This is the spot where I used to sit in the cool shade. I finally got out to look at the "Fake Hammock" where off-road-vehicle users destroyed all 5 of the "anchor" Trema trees that normally attract many birds, especially during migration. It appears that they have abandoned it, having done the damage. The area where I formerly sat in the shade used to have very little ground cover and a full canopy overhead. Now it can be seen as a gash in the center of the "hammock," which is the group of trees in the background of the panoramic photo. Not far away, undisturbed Tremas are now setting fruit.
