Red-headed Woodpecker hole 20120525

    Newer Older

A pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers excavated this nest hole and were photographed mating only a few days ago. For the past two mornings we have not seen either of the pair. It is possible that the female is now incubating and the male is out foraging, or possibly the starlings have taken over the hole. Along the east bank of the Fox River in Aurora, north of Illinois Avenue. Visit
