Hoarfrost at Ellis Trailhead 20111114

Passing clouds created hoar frost that added to the light coating of snow. Images from Sandia Crest House, November 14, 2011. It was 22 degrees at 11:00 AM and it had snowed the previous night. There were flocks of between 8 and 14 Rosy-Finches visiting the deck feeder about every 15-20 minutes. The first Brown-capped RF of the season was spotted by Gene Romero, the manager of Crest House Gift Shop and Restaurant. All the others were Black Rosy-Finches, except for possibly one Gray-crowned.
