White-crowned Sparrow 20110617

On our first full day of our RV adventure we stayed overnight at Talkeenta on our way to Denali National Park. The campground is located along the Alaska Railroad. Upon arrival, we took a late afternoon walk along the southbound tracks, which was the only readily accessible wooded area. White-crowned Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Alder Flycatchers were singing along the way. Common Redpolls were feasting on weed seeds along the tracks.

The next morning we got better views of the redpolls and Alder Flycatchers, and also saw some fledglings that were diddicult to identify unless adults came to feed them.
