Grasshopper Sparrow 20110201

This is only the second time I have seen a Grasshopper Sparrow in the wetlands adjacent to our subdivision. There may have been two birds. I spotted the first when it flew weakly up from some short grass and then immediately landed a few feed ahead. It responded to squeaks and and eventually flew to the top of a berm. A little while later I found it or another in a small shrub next to the grassy area. The other sighting occurred in 2007 before I was a "bird photographer," and was Mary Lou's 500th Life Bird! See:
