RLS-NYC Director Handover Week
During the week of August 13-17, RLS-NYC hosted a small delegation from Germany as part of a series of events to prepare a leadership handover, saying goodbye to Co-directors Albert Scharenberg and Stefanie Ehmsen and welcoming new Executive Director Andreas Günther. Over the week, our new director was able to get to know his staff, visit the United Nations, and chat with longtime office allies and project partners.

As part of this week, on August 15 we invited prominent activists from across North America and Europe to discuss how international political solidarity can defeat right-wing nationalism, and how we can work together to build a shared socialist vision for the 21st century.

This event included remarks on the subject from Medea Benjamin, Code Pink; Bill Fletcher, Institute for Policy Studies; Heather Milton Lightening, Indigenous Environmental Network; Kali Akuno, Cooperation Jackson; Kari Thompson, United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America; Sean Sweeney, CUNY School for Labor and Urban Studies; Oliver Schmidtke, University of Victoria; John Nichols, The Nation magazine; Dawn Phillips, Right to the City Alliance; Steve Williams, LeftRoots; and Maria Svart, Democratic Socialists of America.

It also gave us the chance to hear from the outgoing and incoming office directors about the role of RLS-NYC in promoting 21st century international solidarity, as well as from RLS International leadership including Boris Kanzleiter, Director of the Centre for International Dialogue and Cooperation; and Dagmar Enkelmann, President of the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
