civetta alpenglow

the dolomites are famous for their alpenglow - the wonderful colours they get at sunset. This is the central part of the north face of the Civetta (3220 m) - the clouds are just touching the Punta Tissi, finishing point of famous routes such as 'Comici-Benedetti' or 'Philip-Flamm'..

in order to get a sense of scale the wall in this picture is 1200m high. The Civetta is known as the 'wall of walls' as it is over 3km wide and has many hard climbs on it - another local name is 'regno del 6° grado' (the kingdom of extreme climbing).
