Black-backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas)
In Amboseli, Kenya, while my wife and I were watching an open field where we had previously seen a male lion, two Black-backed Jackals emerged from a grove of trees at the far end of the field. After a few minutes, this individual made a bee-line for where it had apparently stashed a morsel from a previous lion kill. After a few seconds hesitation, it grabbed this foreleg piece from its location and moved swiftly to the shelter of a grove of trees.
