SODIS (Solar Disinfection of Drinking Water)
The Egyptians knew how to use sunlight to disinfect drinking water, but it was largely ignored in our era until Acra and his team in Beirut pioneered it.

Our research in Kenya has shown that leaving water out in the sunshine for 6 hours or more before drinking it gives a worthwhile reduction in diarrhoeal disease in children and protects against cholera.
We're starting a study to see if it helps people living with AIDS.
