Thanks to the excellent steve white2008 www.flickr.com/photos/25347284@N04/4379626708/ for the top photo, and now 2010 what a change!..Cannon Street Railway Bridge is more correctly known as Alexandra Bridge – but everyone knows it as Cannon Street Bridge and opened in 1866,to the far left `New London Bridge house`opened in 1967 and currently being demolished it was designed by Richard Seifert, then we have the construction of the `Shard`{Renzo Piano}when complete it will be the tallest building in the uk at 310 metres or over 1000 feet,in the 1980 photo `Southwark Towers`stood there completed in 1976 and demolised in 2009,then on the far right `Guys Tower`opened in 1974 at 143 feet and is the tallest hospital in the world,in the foreground is `Southwark Cathedral`It has been a place of Christian worship for over 1,000 years, but a Cathedral only since 1905,and was once the tallest building in London until the Monument was completed,on the Bankside we have some reclaimed land and you can see the `Anchor`pub its predecessor dates back to the 15th century,a Nandos has popped up in one of the arches, also in the photo are Pickford and Horseshoe wharfs now of course flats,so quite a bit of history in this photo!!......see my stream for many more old n new london shots
