Wissant - War and Peace, France

Wissant is situated between Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Gris Nez. The German army in World War II expected that the Allied Forces would organize an attack at this coast line, because it is the shortest crossing to the continent from the English coast. They organized an extensive defense structure of bunkers, vertical poles and landmines to stop the attack, called the Atlantic Wall. As we all know now the Allied Forces landed a hundred kilometers to the south in Normandy but some parts of the defense structure are still visible on the beautiful coast of Wissant.
