Haleakala Cinder Cones

Several of the cinder cones in Haleakala crater on Maui, taken from a northern overlook point shorty after sunrise, shot from an average distance of around 1.5 miles away. I find it incredibly alien-looking. The hiking trail from the visitor's center can be seen leading to the one on the far right. The nearly 14,000-ft peaks of the Big Island -- Mauna Kea (left) and Mauna Loa (right), approximately 100 miles away -- can be seen on the horizon. Elevation at this point approximately 8500 feet.
