Bacon Explosion

    Newer Older

I'm always on the lookout for healthy and nutritious snacks, especially when big events like the Super Bowl come around, so when I saw the "Bacon Explosion" on the morning news the other day, I knew I had to try it. Any recipe that begins with "weave a mat of bacon strips" has GOT to be good.

This one had 14 strips of bacon woven together. Then we flattened a pound of pork sausage, covered that with Chipotle Tabasco, Cayenne powder, barbecue sauce, shredded Pepper Jack cheese, diced fresh jalapenos, and two more strips of bacon and rolled it into a log and wrapped that with the bacon mat. We then basted it with some more barbecue sauce, and baked for three hours at 250F.

    It was pretty tasty.

(If you happen to be my doctor or a close friend who just underwent heart bypass surgery, then I'm just kidding, we didn't actually eat it.)

Martin LaBar, Eudaemonius, eℓℓe, and 18 other people added this photo to their favorites.

MMMM looks like a great "snack".... You can't go wrong with bacon according to my 12 year old.. his two favorite foods are bacon and bacon.. if he can't get that then its a double cheese burger.. and the little runt don't weigh 50 pounds...

whoa... I have a friend who will be in heaven when he sees this... ironically enough, from looking at the thumbnail, at first I thought this was a sushi roll... boy was I wrong :)

My wife loves to make sushi rolls. She even mentioned as she was rolling this up that it was like making giant sushi.

5,0000 calories, and 500 g of fat. Looks, wonderful, glad I didn't eat it though. I sure would have liked a single bite though. With all the spices/peppers, I'll bet the flavor was fantastic!

That's amazing! I'm nearly speechless. I have to pass this along to a few people I know would appreciate it. I just happened to notice a photo of mine was tagged in a "cheese-covered bacon" image search (none of which are in my photo, but whatever). That's some serious bacon weaving talent! Haaa!

There's only 13 strips of bacon in the weave. I feel cheated.

There was a time when my husband didn't like bacon so much...weirdo. Then again he was way picky and now that we have been married for just over 5 years, he loves so many more different things. He gained a little weight, went from a size 30 waist to 34. Not bad! He needed it! :p lol Thanks for the great pic. I love bacon and will have to use the "bacon weaving" technique in something! Truly devilishly awesome.
