This yellowjacket wasp was guarding the entrance to its underground nest. It was very much alive and very much unhappy to see me.


Taken with a Canon S5 IS with a Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter and a modified version of Photophool's CCRRFD cereal bowl macro flash diffuser. The camera was mounted to the end of my Trek-Pod II monopod and triggered using my home-made USB remote shutter trigger (using the Juciphox CHDK firmware hack).


Magnification includes 2.6x digital zoom. Full frame, no crop.
