Hand trauma

Young male was holding a homemade explosive device. The fuse of the device was lit, and the patient was unable to throw it away before it detonated.

Hey Reddit! You guys posting my radiographs are the reason I became a redditor. I love you and the community. Now...why don't you guys pick something of mine that hasn't been re-posted fifteen times?

If you don't know what Reddit is, don't go there! It will almost certainly give you a virus.

I had a friend in jr. high who used to blow things up with homemade nitroglycerin. He was lucky though - at no time did his hands leave his fingers. Everyone was jealous of him for being able to blow things up for real. That was 40-some years ago when regular peeps could still get real chemicals. Ah, the good old daze.........

Treatment usually consists of plastic surgery or a hand surgeon.

This had to be a quarter or half-stick of dynamite. A firecracker wouldn't do that; possibly an M-80.

Are you guys seriously feeling sympathy for him?

Note the "HOMEMADE EXPLOSIVE" part of the comment. Note that it was a "young male". Note that he "lit the fuse and was unable to throw it away in time".

He obviously knew damn well what he was getting into, if he made it himself. It's his own fault that he now has to spend all of this money on surgery and everything. I don't feel any sympathy for him at all.

Great picture though, I like x-ray shots.

one wonders wether alcohol was involved
it has a habit of making the person misjudge things a trifle

I assist with a lot of hand surgeries as a scrub tech, and I can honestly say that while this is a devastating wound, I would want to be in on this surgery. No matter how long it would take. Tendon, artery, and nerve repairs are very interesting to watch.
