late 16th century - 'breastplate', Pisa, Le Grand Curtius, Liège, Belgium

This breastplate mimics the contemporary civilian fashion of wearing the doublet padded over the belly, commonly known as the 'peascod' or 'pouter pigeon' silhouette. In Dutch it's called 'ganzenbuik', which translates as 'goose-belly'.
