Greek-Style Bean Soup
We had Fasolada for lunch today (in Greek, beans = 'fasolia'). Yesterday I discovered that a very similar dish is called Fagiolata in Italy, and Feijoada in Portugal. So the Mediterranean is all one ocean, actually, and "una fatsa, una ratsa", as they say.
I also read somewhere that nutritionally this is the perfect and complete meal; the beans provide high protein content, the tomatos, carrots, celery provide antioxidants and minerals, and it is usually eaten with village bread, feta cheese, olives and wine, rounding out the nutritional spectrum. "Poor man's meat" they call it.
