Snowy Sunrise, Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe
Had a nice sunrise at Bonsai. Some calm glassy water and reflections would have really put this one over the top, but I was just happy to have some nice light and color. It snowed all the way over the pass. I almost turned back toward home...but then I figured I would just go ahead and drive all the way to Tahoe in hopes that the sky would open up. When I reached Truckee the weather started improving and by the time I arrived in Tahoe the sky looked nice.
The waves were splashing up on the rocks making thick layers of ice. Made for some very dicey conditions. Picture bowling balls covered in a 2 inch thick layer of ice. Not real user friendly. Finally, after nearly falling on the rocks a couple times I decided to just get in the water. The air temp was so cold that the water actually felt nice! (until I had to get out and trudge my way back up the hill through the snow.....then it was cold)
I wish I could have hung around for more shooting but I had to get home for work in the afternoon.
On the way home I stopped in Truckee and met up with my friend Bill Langton. We had breakfast at "The Squeeze Inn". It was awesome! Check it out the next time you're in Truckee.
This image came out a little on the dark side.....but this is how the scene looked so I didn't try to open it up much. I'm curious to get your feedback on the comp and processing.
