Spinoza laser show ‘enlightens’ The Hague, part 2
Den Haag / The Hague, Spuiplein 20th dec 2007
Ideas purported by the 17th-century philosopher Baruch Spinoza mixed with images of the city will liven up the Spuiplein every evening from 11 December to 20 January.
Designer Reier Pos has again been commissioned by the Stichting Spuiplein to design a special laser show to light up the Spuiplein during the winter months. ‘With the images and texts expounding the freedom of thought, the cultural character of the Spuiplein will literally and figuratively be placed in the spotlight’, explained Deputy Mayor Peter Smit (City Centre).
The artwork subtly spotlights the public space and the architectural details, which draws the visitor’s attention to the area in a playful way. Outer appearance and intrinsic values both play a role in the artwork. The light and Spinoza’s texts connect the buildings and the public space with the people in and around the Spuiplein.
This projection is in follow-up to the laser light project in 2006/2007. Over the last few years designer Reier Pos has been involved in a number of productions and companies such as the Nationale Toneel, RO Theater and the Amsterdamse Bos.
The Stichting Spuiplein aims to liven up the Spuiplein by developing, stimulating and promoting cultural programs and other activities on the Spuiplein. The board is made up of the directors of surrounding cultural organisations as well as business and restaurant owners.
The project can be seen daily from 17.00 to 00.30 hrs.
