This was in the days that you just drove a short way out of town (Nairobi) and shot your dinner. They developed the acres into a game reserve after the war. This allowed the poachers to work without interference of the other "hunters"! In Kenya before the ban on hunting in the early 70's it was the duty of the licensed "White Hunters" to act as unpaid policemen and capture or kill poachers but as these hunters were disallowed and nothing took their place poachers rapidly killed everything. The presedent at the time Jomo Kenyatta got a nobel prize for his efforts at conservation. It was after his death that the Times newspaper in UK reported that he ran the biggest ivory (elephants) poaching group in the country.
