Owens Valley Sunrise

Since Bishop Canyon was incredibly windy (and not very colorful, sky-wise) yesterday morning, we opted instead to go down to the valley floor and capture the pink clouds that were streaking across from the east, over the White Mountains. It was still fairly windy (you'll notice some softness in spots in the rabbitbrush in the foreground), but the sky was gorgeous, and I really liked the silhouette effect of the trees and mountains in the midground. The rabbitbrush is still blooming vivid yellow in the valley, so for those headed out for fall color in the eastern sierra, don't forget to check out the lowland color while you're there!

Tomorrow I'll post another pic of this sunrise--I was working the comp you see here when I glanced to my right and saw the mountains above Bishop lighting up. I think I scared my SO half to death when I went sprinting past him on the road, tripod/camera in hand, shouting "ALPENGLOW!!!" Fortunately, I made it to a spot suitable for shooting before the color faded. :)
